英語科の先生方 (English explanation is written following Japanese one.)
Date & Time: 3/20 Saturday 10 AM – 12 PM
It’s getting warmer and finally spring has come. Hope you are all doing well.
On behalf of Koeiken Debate Devision, I wanted to share the information about a very valuable seminar done by Mr. Paxton from Ibaraki High School.
Resume for the event:
This seminar will talk about the nature of debate and how to teach debate in classrooms with varied ability levels. It will also cover ideas about communicative assessment for classroom debate activities. The seminar will focus on the newcourse of study and teacher concerns and expectations in the changing English language learning curriculum.
Date: 3/20 Saturday
Time: 10 AM – 12 PM
Lecturer: Anthony Paxton from Ibaraki Prefectural Takezono High School
Mr. Paxton has been a teacher at Ibaraki Prefectural Takezono High School for 15 years. He has coached the Takezono English Debate Team for 14 years with the team qualifying for the National Tournament every year for those 14 years. TakezonoDebate Team has finished 5th at the Nationals 2 times in 2013 and 2017, 3rd in 2012, and won the first prize in 2018. In 2016, he became the first foreign teacher to become a fully licensed teacher (教諭) at a prefectural high schoolin Ibaraki. He has taught many debate workshops around Japan on debate and English language learning.
The seminar will be mostly done in English, but he is fluent in both English and Japanese, so if you have any quesion, you can ask him in English or Japanese. Since the English class curriculum is changing and more speaking activities are sought, I believe this is such a wonderful opportunity to learn how he has been doing his class. I understand that it’s one of the busiest time for teachers, but I hope many people will join.
